IS WHAT HAPPENED FORTUNATE? IS IT UNFORTUNATE? MAYBE…PONDER THIS WISDOM…
Greetings fellow wisdom seekers. As always it is my hope that today’s post finds you healthy, wealthy, wise, and powerful. It is also my hope that today’s post will make you even wiser. Below is a short story about a Chinese farmer written by Alan Watts.
The story goes like this:
Once upon a time there was a Chinese farmer, who lost a horse. It ran away. And all the neighbors came around that evening and said, “That’s too bad.” And he said, “Maybe.”
The next day the horse came back, bringing seven wild horses with it. And all the neighbors came around and said, “Oh, that’s great isn’t it?” And he said, “Maybe.”
The next day his son was attempting to tame one of these horses and ride it. He was thrown and broke his leg. And all the neighbors came around in the evening and said, “Oh, dear that’s too bad.” And the farmer said, “Maybe.”
The following day the conscription officers came around looking for people to recruit into the army and they rejected his son, because he had a broken leg. And all the people came around and said, “Well that’s great isn’t it?” And he said, “Maybe.”
Many times in my posts I provide an in depth illustration of what’s presented. However, I find that the lesson in this story shines through with surgical precision. I could summarize it like this however, in life remain poised, hold your “horses/emotions” (when things happen) and never get ahead of them. Always take note and learn from everything good or bad, knowing that there is always more than meets the eye. Sometimes what we see our don’t see may just be a matter of limited perception…
